I've had the opportunity to start over more than once in my life.
And I've learned something along the way.
Starting over doesn't necessarily mean going backward.
Sometimes you can return to familiar roads and discover that they don't feel familiar anymore, because you're not the same person who traveled them the first time.
You've learned a few things. You've made some mistakes. You've had victories and disappointments. You've met people you'll never forget. You've collected memories you'll always carry with you.
And when another beginning finally comes around, you don't arrive empty-handed.
You're starting with experience.
That's where “A Fresh New Start” came from.
It's about the excitement of realizing there's still another adventure ahead. Another road to travel. Another chance to dream bigger, climb higher and see where life takes you.
There's a line in the song:
That's really what this song means to me.
The past isn't something I need to run away from. It's part of what got me here.
But I'm not going to spend the rest of my life looking backward either.
There are still roads I haven't traveled. Songs I haven't written. People I haven't met. Memories I haven't made.
And probably a few mistakes I haven't gotten around to making yet.
That's okay.
Because starting over doesn't have to mean starting from scratch.
Sometimes it simply means taking everything you've learned, turning toward what's ahead, and giving yourself a fresh new start.
