What We Should See

We've all seen it happen.

Someone loses their temper. They're angry, they're yelling, maybe they're completely wrong, and everything inside us says to push back. Raise our voice. Prove our point. Give them exactly what they're giving us.

But what if we didn't?

“What We Should See” is about recognizing that sometimes the anger standing in front of us started long before we ever entered the picture.

We don't know what happened five minutes ago, five days ago, or five years ago. We don't know what someone is carrying when they walk through the door.

Empathy doesn't mean agreeing with bad behavior. It doesn't mean letting someone walk over you. And it doesn't mean pretending they're right.

It simply means being strong enough to say:

“I don't have to say they're right
To understand they're hurting too.”

Maybe a calm voice keeps an argument from becoming something worse. Maybe a smile reminds somebody that the whole world isn't against them. Maybe instead of adding another hurt, we become the person who helps them find their way through the one they're already carrying.

Because someday, I might be the one who's angry. I might be the one who's hurting. I might be the one who isn't making much sense at all.

And when that day comes, I hope somebody sees past my worst moment and remembers there's still a person underneath it.

If I can help you through yours...
Maybe someone will help me through mine.

“What We Should See” is a song about choosing empathy over escalation, understanding over judgment, and helping instead of hurting.
